Boarding Facilities

Important Notice

As of November 14, 2011, Orchard Mesa Veterinary Hospital will require that all dogs boarding or grooming at our facility have the Canine Influenza vaccination. We wish to be proactive against this disease and protect your dog while it is at our hospital.

Canine Influenza is a highly contagious “flu” like virus. 100% of non-vaccinated dogs are susceptible to the virus. Since 2003, several outbreaks have been reported in the United States, including Colorado. There have been suspected cases in Durango, Steamboat Springs and Loma, Colorado. This disease is transmitted through direct contact, through the air and via contaminated surfaces. At the time dogs are most contagious, they often have no symptoms. Dogs most at risk include dogs that come into contact with other dogs at places such as parks, grooming facilities, dog events, and boarding facilities. Even walking your dog in your neighborhood can place your dog at risk. Symptoms are similar to kennel cough, including coughing, fever, lack of energy, loss of appetite and nasal discharge. Symptoms are usually mild, but can become quite serious for some dogs. More severe signs can include high fever and pneumonia.

The Canine Influenza vaccine is a yearly vaccine. The first time it is given, it needs to be boostered one additional time in 3 weeks. To be effective, dogs need to have had the booster vaccine at least 2 weeks prior to boarding or grooming.

If you have any questions about Canine Influenza, please ask us.

Our boarding facility is one of the largest in town. For the dogs, we offer various sized runs and kennels with in-floor heat and a customized cooling system. Dogs with special needs are welcome. For their comfort, our cats are housed in a separate cattery. All dogs and cats need to be current on vaccinations
and are closely supervised by our staff veterinarians. We can board daily, by the week, or longer.

Call the boarding facility at 970-241-9588 today to schedule an appointment – and, of course, visitors are always welcome!

Orchard Mesa Vet & Boarding, Dr. Melzer, Dr. Hugenburg, Dr. Clark, & Dr. Rebernik, & all other staff that provide care for my pets;

Thank you for boarding my German Shepherds for the 12 days when I was out of town. Orchard Mesa Vet & Boarding did an excellent job and adhered to my care requirements. When I picked up my two dogs, I could immediately tell they were well cared for. Their appearance was neat and clean. They smelled good, and looked good. Their eyes were clean and they were very happy to see me. I noticed you even trimmed their toenails - thanks!
My two German Shepherds are my life. Though they are “just dogs” in everyone else’s opinion, it really saddened my heart to “leave them somewhere” under someone else’s care. I’m 38 years old and I drove off with tears in my eyes. I even teared up on the plane when in route to Florida and again in Orlando. All I could think of was my Scipio and Sego! It was difficult to leave them, but it was comforting that I had done my research. I found that Orchard Mesa Vet & Boarding was the best place to board. After touring your facility, I found it was very clean and fresh smelling…. Customer Services is A+ at Orchard Mesa Vet & Boarding!….

Thank you Orchard Mesa Vet & Boarding. I would definitely board with you again, and I have told all my friends about the good job you have done for me and my two dogs. It is obvious that Orchard Mesa Vet is diligent with animal care and you willfully take pride in your services you provide. This is why I am one of your most loyal customers and I have been for over twenty years. Orchard Mesa Vet are truly Best in the West!

Sincerely,  Jeff Baber
